Some thoughts about internships.....
To help you to prepare the interns for their time we have some ideas, suggestions and tips that we would like you to read and think about. These are things that we have learned sometimes creates misunderstandings, surprises or even a shock in the beginning.
-It does not always work the same way in Ecuador as in your country but one thing is the same, it takes some time to get in to a job and nobody will give responsible tasks the first day. Expect a couple of days or a week before things start to fall into its place.
-If something feels wrong, contact the local coordinator right away. Many times it is a culture or language misunderstanding so don't feel ashamed to ask questions.
-What the interns will do depends in many cases on them, their Spanish level, their experience and education and of course that they show interest.
-To come for 6 weeks internship and start asking for Fridays off is not a way of showing interest, plan for vacation before starting or finishing the internship instead.
-Remember to ask for any documents, certificate you need showing what you have done at your internship before the last week and not when you have returned to your country.
-Remember that you can have ideas to improve the way they work or teach your coworkers things they don't know, use your imagination.
-Don't exaggerate your CV/RESUME, it will show fast once you start to work.
-You are here to see and learn so don't be shy, ask questions, talk to people, give ideas, get involved and show them that you want to learn.
